Jean Abshire and Cliff Staten October 10, 2018
Our guest, journalist Zaw Hlaing, shared his experiences as a young democracy activist in Burma who had to flee to safety in India. He eventually came to the US – to Indiana! – and now works for the Burmese-language section of Voice of America, based in Washington, D.C. His work as a journalist takes him back to Burma annually. He shared his insights on the Rohingya crisis, the power of the military, and the country’s struggle toward democratic and economic reform.
